Substance Use Disorder Day Treatment
Programs that provide supervised, structured, full-day daytime activities which may include individual and group counselling, 12-step meetings, social and recreational activities, educational and vocational services, a program for family members, relapse prevention services and a continuing care program for individuals who have disorders related to excessive use of alcohol and/or use of other drugs, need treatment that is more intensive than an outpatient program but do not require 24-hour hospital care, and are currently drug and/or alcohol free. Most participants attend day treatment programs eight hours per day, Monday through Friday with part-day sessions on the weekends (though some programs are available as little as five hours per day or as long as 12 hours per day).
