Immigrant/Refugee Support Groups
Mutual support groups whose members are immigrants, refugees, temporary workers and other newcomers. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; and allow participants to share their experience, strengths and hopes to solve the problems they have in common and to address the cultural transition and quality of life issues that affect them all.
Cultural Heritage Programs
Programs that support and celebrate the diversity of the community's social, artistic and intellectual inheritance.
Ethnocultural Multipurpose Centres
Multipurpose centres that serve as focal points for specific ethnocultural groups within the community and which offer, at a single location, a wide variety of services and activities that are structured to meet the social, educational, economic, recreational and other needs of participants in ways that are culturally appropriate.
Ethnocultural Collections
Libraries or other organizations that maintain resource centres or special collections of materials which relate to the culture and history of specific ethnocultural groups. Multicultural collections often contain newspapers and magazines that have been published by the community, records and tapes of music, children's books and other materials that may be of interest to community residents. Other holdings may include government publications, official records, oral histories, photographs, audio recordings and audio-visual presentations (cassettes, CDs, videos, 16-mm films), online databases and dissertations.
International Cultural Exchange
Programs that provide opportunities for people to enjoy international cultural activities or attend art exhibits, music concerts, opera performances, dance exhibitions, theatre performances or other events that are representative of the artistic and humanities traditions of other countries. The purpose of international cultural exchange programs is to foster an appreciation and respect for other cultures and deepen international understanding.
