Colostomy Patients
Individuals who are in the process of making a decision about whether to have a colostomy, are scheduled for or have had a colostomy and are in the process of recovering, possibly with the aid of radiation or other further forms of treatment, or who have had the procedure done in their past. A colostomy is the surgical creation of an opening of some portion of the colon onto the abdominal surface, usually as a result of a pathological condition which prevented passage of the feces through the colon. Temporary colostomies divert the fecal flow from the inflamed or operative area while tissues are given an opportunity to heal.
Ileostomy Patients
Individuals who are in the process of making a decision about whether to have an ileostomy, are scheduled for or have had an ileostomy and are in the process of recovering, possibly with the aid of radiation or other further forms of treatment, or who have had the procedure done in the past. An ileostomy is a surgical procedure in which a passage is created through the abdominal wall to the ileum to permit drainage of fecal material into a bag that is worn on the abdomen.
Urostomy Patients
Individuals who are in the process of making a decision about whether to have an urostomy, are scheduled for or have had a urostomy and are in the process of recovering, possibly with the aid of radiation or other further forms of treatment, or who have had the procedure done in the past. A urostomy is a surgical procedure which allows for the evacuation of urine from the bladder or kidneys to an outside collection device fitted with an emptying valve and tube.
